Founded under the artistic direction of  Jessica McMahon, The Contemporary Movement  was created with a vision of providing the midcoast Maine dance community space to come together and dance without judgement and reservation. The Contemporary Movement provides dancers with a place to explore their passion, develop technique, and assimilate creativity.

Each month dancers enter the studio and begin by discussing a current social issue. After gaining an understanding of the topic at hand, dancers learn a choreographed piece internalizing the movement, making it their own and sharing their story through dance.

The Contemporary Movement offers students a safe, nurturing environment to hone their craft while continuing to develop their technique. In addition to regular classes and rehearsals, students are brought into the community to lead by example, telling stories and sharing experiences through the art of dance.
