Two must see clips from valued sources in today's pop culture.

First, journalist Anderson Cooper recently reported a special program titled 'Bullying: It Stops Here." The video is filled with information, tips and guidance from specialists, including the like of Dr. Phil, Kelly Ripa, Jane Lynch and Roslyn Weisman. Together they speek about the problem of bullying in America, and educate the audience about the bullier, victim and the bystander. Additionally they address what we as a society are doing to reinforce the problem and some ideas of what we can do to recorrect our behavior and how we can work to fix the problem.

Even with the information about bullying that is surfacing, and the solutions being discussed the problem is still on the rise and more questions seemed to be popping up.

What can we do to help relieve the problem of bullying in our school systems?

How should school systems and educators recact to the problem of bullying?

What can/should kids do to address the problem of bullying?

When you get down to it, who is at fault for the bullying problem?

This second clip comes from 48 Hours, a special titled, "Bullying: Words Can Kill." We have been watching and talking about this video in our contemporary repertoire class. It very nicely highlights the problem of bullying from the point of view of the victim. It addresses what the school systems have done, or not done, to address the problem in their own schools. It also talks to the families of the victims and what they are going through and how they handle the situations of their children being bullied.

This video is worth a watch, or two. By addressing and talking about the issue and why it is a problem, we can begin to turn it around and make it less of an issue and eventually, with any luck it will go away.
